COMMONLY USED ALUMINUM ALLOYS
Aluminum alloys for high-pressure die casting are dominated by the Al-Si-Cu system, featuring excellent castability and low cost. Alloys for gravity casting (including sand casting and permanent mold casting) mainly use the Al-Si-Mg system and Al-Si system, which are heat-treatable and offer higher strength and corrosion resistance.

High-Pressure Die Casting
Preferred alloys are ADC12/YL113, A380/YL112, suitable for complex thin-walled parts with requirements of high fluidity and low cost; generally not heat-treated.
-
Gravity Casting
Preferred alloys are A356/ZL101A, ZL104, suitable for medium‑thick wall structural parts requiring high strength, corrosion resistance and heat treatability.

Overlap
A356, ZL104 are also widely used in low‑pressure / counter‑pressure casting; ADC12 is rarely used in gravity casting due to sticking tendency and low performance.
